Forks

Safety

Life for a lift truck fork is one long drag. In time, the daily grind against concrete or other paved surfaces wears down even the toughest fork. Worn forks have less capacity which could have an impact on safety.

Safety is already a significant issue within most organizations. Each organization has to adhere rigidly to the restrictions set by govermental authorities. Therefore it is essential that your organization meets these restrictions.

With this in mind, we would like to draw your attention to one of the most safely-critical parts of a lift truck, the forks.

The product

Our forks are made by combining traditional skills with innovative designs and high-technology production processes. The bend-and-upset forge process achieves the maximum levels of accuracy and control, while creating a product that is both dimensionally and
structurally sound.

To achieve the highest quality standard, every fork is heat treated, shot blasted and checked for hardness and cracks. All other tests & measurements are conducted on a statistical basis in accordance with ISO 2330, BS 5639 & DIN 15175, FEM and ITA CERTIFICATES

If desired certificates can be provided together with each pair of forks.

Forks

Forks wear. That’s a fact. Worn forks can mean damage to your facility, to your goods and to your people. Your Masslift dealer can check your lift truck forks for signs of abrasion, bending, twisting or fatigue.

Wear

Wear on a fork always appears under the heel. Forks must be checked regularly because a small amount of wear can have a huge effect on capacity. As shown on the capacity reduction curve below, a 10% reduction in thickness results in a 20% reduction in capacity. Regulations state that a 10% reduction in thickness requires the forks to be replaced.

Fork Calipers

For a quick inspection of fork wear you can use fork calipers. This handy tool allows you to measure wear while forks are mounted on
the lift truck.

How do they work?

There are two pair of points on the caliper jaws. The outer pair (A) sets the calipers to the original fork thickness (point 1). When these points are positioned, the inner points (B) are automatically set to 90% of the original thickness. If the inner points (point 2) pass over the fork arm, you will know you have more than 10% wear.
